Classic Marx Tin Litho Dollhouse, made in 1961
This is a very nice example of the basic two-story house produced by Marx. This style was first produced in 1950, with this particular model being produced for Montgomery Ward in 1961. It originally included the rare dutch door (unfortunately really rare, since it's missing from this doll house). It does have the two dormers, the chimney, and the plastic bay window. It originally came with thirty pieces of 1/2" scale "traditional" furniture and was marketed for $3.98. For collectors, prices like that are just a fond memory!
The house is in very nice condition with only a couple of minor ripples in the roof, very minimal rust and minor scratches, and of course, the missing front door. The lithography is still very bright and unfaded.
We have included furnishings of the same style as the original accessories. Most pieces carry the Marx trademark, although some do not. The original issue included 5 pieces of patio furniture. We have included three of them, lacking one bench and the barbecue grill. The table is also missing its pole and umbrella. In the house are 27 pieces to fill it out to thirty pieces. All the pieces are in excellent condition with the exception of the previously mentioned patio table, also the Mickey Mouse crib has one leg broken off and the corner post on the same corner. |
